How (and Why) to Submit Sound Files to IrkedMagazine.com/listen

Irked Magazine welcomes submissions of sound files for possible inclusion on our site.

Please read this page carefully before submitting anything.

We accept MP3, WAV and AIFF files only.

You can submit via email or postal mail.

Please include your email address, phone number, and full name every time you send us anything. We will not use your phone number to contact you unless your email address is invalid. We will never post your email address or phone number online without your express permission.

We appreciate the effort that goes into making sound files and understand that you may be inclined to check up on the status of your submitted readings. However, please don't send us email asking whether we've received your package or listened to your sound files yet. We get lots of email, and a fair amount of postal mail and, unfortunately, don't have time to answer individual queries on this. If you send us a sound file, we will listen to it. And if it sounds alright, we will publish it on our site eventually!

If you want to know for certain that your package arrived safely, we recommend using one of the shipping services that provide you with a “tracking number.” Almost all full-service post offices/couriers offer such an option.

Use the following format to name your sound files: AuthorName-EssayName.mp3.
Here’s an example of how the files should look:

  • DavidRoche-MensMeeting.mp3
  • JociCaven-mePodColumn1.mp3
  • BrianSegal-TooTiredForInsomnia.mp3
  • And so on…

The only thing you should need to record audio content for us is a microphone/headphone set that can be plugged directly into your computer. These can be bought for quite cheap at ANY major store that sells computer products. (Please note: many new computers come with a built in microphone. If your computer has one, it probably works just fine!)

There are many programs that do an excellent job recording sound directly into your computer.

If you’re looking for a completely free and easy-to-use program, we recommend Audacity, which is a wonderful open-source audio editor and recorder that we often use.

You can send us sound files of you reading ANY piece of writing that has ever appeared on Irked Magazine’s entire website! Just remember to name your file correctly, so we can easily determine where to place your recording.
